If you've visited Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, or Atlantic Beach recently, you've probably noticed large amounts of brown seaweed covering portions of the shoreline. While it may seem unusual, this seasonal visitor is actually a natural part of the Atlantic Ocean ecosystem. The seaweed currently washing ashore is known as sargassum.
