We went on a free Crystal Quest today in Atlantic Beach’s Johansen Park, put on by ShowFar Productions. They create immersive and experiential entertainment experiences for all ages. And they put on free events in Atlantic Beach!
I went with my 10-year-old son and his friend, and they both really enjoyed the experience. It was a great excuse to get the kids off screens and out in the park on a beautiful spring day.
Starting Your Crystal Quest
I signed up on their website, using the free code from the City of Atlantic Beach website. I noticed they offer all kinds of different experiences if you want to book a unique event yourself.

We started our adventure at the check-in table, where we picked up our map and scanned a QR code that brought up the story about the crystals. You could read the text and also listen to the story audio.

You could bring your own crystal or pick out a crystal at the beginning of the quest. Next, you listen to the story as you start your adventure looking for the first crystal spot.
The Revival of a Lost Myth
Your map introduces the story:
Crystal Quest is a revival of a lost myth—one that speaks of Lumen, shaper of light, and the resonant crystals buried deep within the Earth, beyond human reach. What remains on the surface are fragments: stones of memory, balance, and choice. This myth is not widely known, its original author lost to time, and its endings uncertain.
Reintroduced through immersive storytelling and participatory ritual, Crystal Quest extracts ancient wisdom using modern tools—sound, movement, play, and shared presence. Participants do not simply hear the myth; they help carry it forward.
The story itself is not fixed. The original myth holds multiple endings, and so does the experience. Each time you take part, new paths and choices unfold. Return again to discover alternate storylines, deeper meanings, and a wider role within the myth—because in Crystal Quest, the story evolves with those who walk it.
I ended up being the one listening to the story, while the boys ran ahead because they were super excited to hunt for the next crystal spot.
When I caught up to them, I would sum up the story and tell them what to do with the crystals. (like take one, trade one, hold it up to the light, etc.)
This is what the crystal stations look like:

You can trade your crystals or pick a new one. There were a lot of different ones to choose from. The boys were excited about every new one we found.
We spent about an hour overall, walking through the park from one end and back again. They were determined to find every crystal spot!

Learning About Crystals
After you return, you choose a crystal to keep, and then you can learn all about your crystal and what it is used for. They have a deck of crystal cards with photos and descriptions.
The one I picked was blue and white, and I learned it was Sodalite. I thought it was Lapis and thought it was interesting to learn it was known as “poor man’s Lapis” due to the similar coloration.

Fun at the End of the Quest
The kids had a fun time, and I was glad we got outside to enjoy the beautiful day! They also had fun walking the tightrope they had set up at the beginning/finish line.
